Each year we have a substantial number of members training for Boston and other spring marathons, so you will be in great company for long runs, weekly runs, and track workouts. In addition, SRR offers many benefits for its members, which are highlighted below. Specific details will be provided via e-mail over the course of the training season. If you have any questions, please contact boston@srr.org.

Sean Collier Memorial Run and Pre-Marathon Pasta Party

When: Thursday, April 12th at Casey's, 7pm

Details: Five years ago, MIT Police Officer Collier, who was also a member of the Somerville Auxiliary Police, was slain in the line of duty. Prior to the start of the Casey's run, there will be a moment of silence for Sean. We will be collecting donations after the run to make a contribution to the Somerville Auxiliary Police Sean Collier Memorial Scholarship Fund. A buffet dinner of pasta, sauce, meatballs, and bread will be provided after the run.

SRR Marathon Day Elite Water Stop and Cheer Zone

When: Marathon Monday!

Details: Runners are welcome to invite family and friends to join SRR members at the SRR cheer zone at the 30K. This is one of the best cheer zones on the course and will help give the runners an extra boost of energy before they encounter the legendary Heartbreak Hill. Our Cheer Zone captain will send out details to club members who would like to volunteer and help contribute to its continued success. The approximate address is 1215 Commonwealth Ave in Newton. Nearest major cross street is Lowell which runs in from Rte 16 and Washington Street and the Star Market that flies over the Mass Pike. If you are driving, allow extra time to get there due to traffic and road closures starting at 8:30am. Your goal is to craft a route that does not cross the Marathon route, and stay well away from juncture of Rte 16 and Commonwealth Ave. We suggest coming in from Mass Pike and Rte 16 on Lowell St or a parallel Street. Parking should be available on nearby side streets within reasonable walking distance (within 1/2 to 1 mile). If you're driving, you can park along Lowell St or at Newton North High School.

Prior to race day, volunteers will collect bags from runners with specialty items (e.g., gu, fuel, band-aids) that they'd like to have waiting after 18.6 miles of awesome. Also at this magical spot, SRR members, friends, family members, puppies, and others gather to cheer the crew! SRR MARATHONERS can sign up in advance using the following runner form sign-up. An email notification will be sent to you afterwards, and you can edit/update your information until marathon week. (Don't worry, we'll be sending a few reminders if you can't do it today). Further details including bag specifications and collection dates/times will be forthcoming.
SRR VOLUNTEERS can sign up in advance using the following volunteer form sign-up. There are several opportunities to help out including collection of runners' items, getting supplies needed for the elite water stop/cheer zone, and assisting throughout race day.

SRR Post-Marathon Party at The Burren

When: Monday, April 16th, 5-8pm

Details: Celebrate your accomplishment and share your favorite marathon stories. Head to the Burren in Davis Square at 5pm to have a pint, some munchies and to talk split times, chaffing and weather. Please RSVP by April 5th so can be sure to have enough food. Sign-up sheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1aSzeeaiRJuPdLRzO9vwnFNGidLf_vp0BMHqOEs46JoA/edit?usp=sharing

SRR Marathon Bus and Hotel

Details: Available to current members.

Once again the famous SRR Post-Boston Hospitality Suite is at the Park Plaza Hotel. If you have come in years past, it is in the same place. The hotel is a short walk from the finish line. Look for a group e-mail on Sunday, April 15th (around 5pm) with the room number. Memorize it, write it on your pace bracelet, or tattoo it on your friend's forehead. The hotel doesn't know anything about SRR, so if you need help at the desk the reservation is under the name: Tina Mack.
Tina will be in touch about collecting bags so you can have your things available to you at the hotel. Available to SRR members only (6+months)

Hotel info: The Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Towers, 50 Arlington Street, Boston MA

The party starts later!!! In a bold move, the BAA has pushed back our Party Bus arrival time. The SRR Party Bus will leave ASSEMBLY SQUARE T-Station at 7:45AM!!! No more early wake-ups, at least not for the Party Bus. If you are parking at Assembly, please use the paid MBTA parking lot. They do tow cars left over 3 hours. The party bus price is $30. The party bus will wait in the Athlete's Village so you will have a comfortable place to sit before your start time. There is a bathroom on board the bus. There is no bag check at the start of the marathon. Anything you take on the bus you will discard or carry during your run. On marathon day, I will meet the bus to check everyone in and to pick-up any personal items (wallets, phones, etc) that need to be taken to the Post-Marathon Hospitality Suite.
Sign-up is required, only BAA registered/qualified runners allowed to ride the bus. Sign up Here: https://runsignup.com/Race/MA/Somerville/SRRMarathonBusSignup
