On behalf of the SRR Board of Directors, the following is important information about the upcoming 2012 Boston Marathon. Please take some time to read through this page carefully.

Invitational
Numbers for the Boston Marathon
The Boston Athletic Association has again invited
Somerville Road Runners to participate in the Boston Marathon invitational bib
program and has granted ten applications to be distributed to SRR members.
The Board will
review all applications and will award the bibs by December 20th. If you are awarded an invitational entry to the 2012
Boston Marathon, you need to make a commitment to follow a few rules in order
to keep us in the good graces of the BAA so that we may be able to participate
in this program in the future.
- You will need to complete and send in the
marathon application that we will give you asap with a strict deadline of January 13, 2012.
- Include with the application your payment of
$300 for the invitational entry fee.
- Train to run the marathon to achieve a finish
time of 4 hours and 30 mins or better.
- Once the application has been submitted to the
BAA, no substitutions can be made. If you become injured and are unable to run
Boston 2012, you must notify both the Board and the BAA immediately. UNDER NO
CIRCUMSTANCES ARE THESE APPLICATIONS TO BE TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER PARTY, SOLD,
AUCTIONED, USED AS AWARDS OR DISTRIBUTED IN ANY OTHER MANNER. Any conflicts
will result in the disqualification of the runner and review of the club's
standing in the B.A.A. Running Club Program.
Please note that if you are a qualified runner,
the BAA will seed you appropriately.
If you have any questions about applying for a number,
contact Heather Hagerty.

SRR Marathon Bus
SRR will again be offering the ever-popular MARATHON BUS for Boston 2012!! To reserve your seat make a check for $25 payable to "SRR" and mail it to:
Kathy Hynes
17 Winter Street, Apt. 35
Watertown MA 02472
Available to
SRR or Mystic Running Club members only; first come, first served. And you must (per BAA rules) be a registered runner to ride the bus (no bandits!)
The SRR bus will collect you at WELLINGTON Station on marathon morning and bring you to Hopkinton for the start. Once in Hopkinton the bus will stay and give you a place to wait in case it's raining--snowing--nor'eastering--etc. There's also a BATHROOM on board so you can avoid the lines at the athlete's village. The club bus will not, however, be driving to the finish line, so you will still need to go to the regular BAA buses to drop off your belongings when you walk to the start.

SRR Marathon
Hospitality Suite
Once again, SRR has reserved a hotel room at the Boston
Park Plaza (50 Park Plaza, Boston) as a pit-stop for club members upon finishing the marathon. Tina Tobey will be
overseeing the suite this year and will be in touch in early April with
arrangements to collect club member’s bags to bring to the suite instead of
sending them to Boston on the marathon buses. Available to SRR members only.

SRR Elite Water

The SRR Elite Water Stop Team will be providing an
elite-style water stop for SRR members. This means that you marathoners can
have waiting for you whatever specialty item(s) you might wish to have at the
30K mark - including sports gels, soda, gatorade, fruit, clothing, etc. Kate O’Malley will be in touch in early April
to discuss drop-off arrangements and sign-up volunteers to help out. Available

SRR Marathon Day
Cheer Zone
Last year, we decided to eliminate our massive water stop
in response to inquiries by the Board of Health and instead instituted the SRR
Cheer Zone at the 30K mark, in conjunction with the Elite Water Stop for club
members. The Cheer Zone is open to SRR members, their families, friends and
non-members. We may bring a small supply of water and cups for kids to hand out
as they please. After many years of handling the water stop, then the Cheer
Zone, Bill Bryant has stepped down. Stepping up to manage this year's activities are Laurie Gagnon and Korynn Stoyanoff. More info to come.
