SRR hosts a free weekly 5K Fun Run on Monday nights at 6:45 PM at the Burren Pub and Restaurant (247 Elm Street) in Davis Sq, Somerville. No need to sign up in advance – just show up by 6:45 PM and sign in when you arrive.
We gather inside the Burren, either in the back room or the basement. If we're in the basement, you should see a sign near the bar telling us that we're meeting downstairs. Either way, you can leave your things in the Burren during the run, though be thoughtful about bringing valuables. We've never had anything go missing, but nobody is watching our things while we're out on our run.
The Bur-run starts at Kenney Park in Davis Square and heads up Summer St, left onto Central St, left onto Medford St, left onto Broadway, left onto Cedar St and a final right onto the bike path. Look for the big neon yellow diamond shaped bike and pedestrian signs. Follow the bike path to the parking lot, turn left into the Rite Aid parking lot, and then cross the street, ending up back in Kinney Park where we started. Watch out for pedestrians, bikers, strollers, kids and dogs.
This is an open course. In other words, there is no traffic control, and we will be running either against traffic or on sidewalks at all times. All participants must wear some sort of reflective gear. This is not an officially timed run.
The Burren allows SRR runners to meet in the back room and to leave our bags until 8pm. This is not considered a secure storage, and neither the Burren nor SRR is responsible for your personal items, so do not bring any valuables. The back room opens at 8pm for Irish step dancers, which you are invited to stay for at a nominal fee. After that, we are welcomed in the front bar or sidewalk tables (weather permitting) to eat and drink as long as we like (at each individual’s expense).
Parking / Getting Here
If you plan to drive to Davis Square, you can find both street parking and lots. Remember, meters are in effect until 8pm, so bring your quarters (one quarter = 15 minutes).
If you take the T, the Burren is a short walk from Davis on the Red Line.
