It had the lukewarm consistency of day-old oatmeal, the kind you typically discover on the kitchen table on a sunday morning after a 36-hour bout of drunkeness. But this pâté wasn't just your typical culinary disaster you could get rid of by force-feeding the neighbor's poodle because the little bastard barks all night. No. Derek had no choice but to partake of it, after all, he HAD been personally invited to the housewarming party of that swanky new hard-body vice-president in the office, a russian babe named Svetlana.

The mere aroma convulsed his stomach into knots as his olfactory buds detected icelandic shark as a constituent. Svetlana looked at him with expectant bambi-eyes. He took of it, forced it to the back of his mouth, all the while faking chewing motions. He swallowed it whole. She looked satisfied and moved on. As a wave of nausea overwhelmed him, Derek slumped into the couch, his innards heaving and roiling. Sweat from his brow trickled into his left eye, stinging him. He caught the gaze of Armando across the room, who regarded him knowingly.
