December 6 Meeting

The December 6 meeting of SRR was called to order by John Evans at 7:35pm, Cambridge Brewing Company. Sorry Dom. Dom Daveta went to Khourys instead.

Present members included:

Just kidding about Pamela and Tommy Lee. They actually had to leave early. Something about a new bootleg video and pending legal action.

Business discussed included:

  1. Gobble-Gobble-Gobble Wrapup: Event drew many more runners than expected. Everyone sees dollar signs. Full financial report to come next meeting. Greg Menounos stepping down as race director. Good job, Greg! I intend to have a race committee in place at the end of the january meeting.

  2. Annual Party Update: None!!

  3. Winter Challenge: Tom Hagerty taking over. Briefly discussed pushing it back a week, but decided to go forward with it as planned.

  4. Visibility / Tent / Banner / Targeting a monthly race: Tent still not purchased, hopefully we will have it before the January race. Voted on choosing the Derry 16M race on January 23rd as a major race to get SRR participation.

  5. Track Workouts: Steve reports that we now have the Tufts indoor track at least thru February. Attendance is really good!!!

  6. Newsletter: Aileen and Peter T. working hard on it.

  7. Boston Marathon Numbers: Club form sent in to BAA. Club policy modified on how numbers will be given out. Half of the numbers we receive from the BAA will be given out at discretion of the board, taking many factors into account, stressing past volunteer contributions. People must ask for this special dispensation by January 1. The other half of the numbers will be given out via raffle at the annual party. People must be current dues-paying members for at least 6 months, and must agree to volunteer for at least two SRR events.

  8. Strategic Planning: The idea has been thrown on the table that as a club we have too many events and that one race should be dropped. Much discussion about whether the Winter Challenge qualifies as such a race. Most think not, but I personally do. We voted to put all four of our major races (An Ras Mor, Summer Steamer, 24 Hr Relay, GGG) into the NERunner calendar now and not worry at the moment about what decision we come to, if any, next month regarding this.

  9. Next Meeting: To be held at Cambridge Brewing Company again. It was a bit noisier than expected, but the waiter says that was unusual. The food was great and the air was breathable!
