January 3 Meeting

The January 3 meeting of SRR was called to order by John Evans at 7:35pm, Cambridge Brewing Company.

Present members included:

Business discussed included:

  1. An Ras Mor: Race Committee consists of Dan Solomon, Dominic, Aileen Mason, Peter Terhune, Evil Robin, Chris Ahearn, and Lionel Kervella. Race Director Una McKeever reports all is going well. On-line application is up, timing is ok, we have Coolrunning, NERunner, flyers in the Swamp Rat.

  2. Annual Party Update: 21st of january, 8pm. VFW in Medford. $6 per person, $10 per couple, and no fake couples!

  3. On-line Club Membership: Via credit card. Bill Peregoy proposed the idea. The company that handles it takes a 7% charge for a year agreement. Motion passed to give it a try. Motion also passed to give new members a break on buying a singlet when they join.

  4. Visibility / Tent / Banner / Targeting a monthly race: Tent still not purchased, hopefully we will have it before the January race. Voted to choose Dick Duffy's Penguin Classic Race as our race to target this February.

  5. Wheelchair Racing Workshop: Chris Ahearn may be proposing that we help out with a workshop around the time of the Boston Marathon. More details to follow next meeting.

  6. Newsletter: It was better than "Cats". Great job, Peter and Aileen! The website NIC administrative contact and billing contact has finally passed out of Ryan Reed's registration into our own. All that remains is to change the official registrant's name, which will take 4-7 weeks and require a notary public signature. Also, we will need some more help with the web site after I step down in March, so I would like to start transitioning with someone, maybe beginning next month. Hey, HTML is easy, people.

  7. Strategic Planning: I pushed the idea that if any race is dropped this year, it should be the Winter Challenge, due to the long list of events in surrounding weeks. We decided not to drop any races for the year when Dan Solomon volunteered to take on the Winter Challenge. As far as the other four races, it was decided to really push race committees to spread the burden, rather than allowing race directors to try to do it all themselves. We'll see at An Ras Mor whether or not we can back up our words here.

  8. Taxes: Dan Solomon to lead the charge.

  9. Next Meeting: Cambridge Brewing Company, February 7.
