Something Was Very Very Wrong in East Somerville
- 24-hour Race (Aug 3-4): The numbers aren't in yet, but based on the feedback already received, the race was deemed a success' Janie and Mike have a bet as to whether we made money.
- Barb's Movie (Aug. 10): A reminder that Barb Moran's indie film Big Man Run would be playing this Thursday, and club members are encouraged to attend.
- Lake Winnie (Sept 23): We need an 8th person for Mike's team! Pretty much everyone is paid up. Steve B. has a masters team, and Robin(?) is working on putting together a 3rd team (co-ed?). We need a team captain and a cut-off date for getting everyone signed up.
- Marketing: Many ideas were brought forth of how to promote the club. A new member packet was (again) discussed, as were bringing in people to talk (Bill Rodgers, Karen Smyers, Colin Peddie, etc) at Khoury's or elsewhere. Members of the club should always have K's maps, club apps, and race apps on hand for when they go by health clubs, etc. Sticker, temp tattoos, pens, and other giveaways were discussed. Simple and free things like putting a sign in your car window at races were brought up. A water stop on the Boston Marathon course or on the Chaz in fall and spring. Open house. Beginner's program, walkers, kids. Lots of ideas, now we need people to help implement them.
- Race of the Month: This should go on the front page of the web site. New for 2001 (or sooner) might be a random drawing that include only members at Race of the Month who wear their singlet.
- Web page: Is anyone interested in helping out with the web page? Person should have knowledge of web design and be willing to put in a few hours (if that) a week on the site (i.e., should be someone who can update the site with K's results and other files on a timely basis). Creativity not necessary, but we like it. Contact Aileen Mason if you want to apply.
- Singlets: We're having a sale! Get your SRR singlets for $10 while they last. Contact Coach Steve Burton.
- Mill Cities: Chris Ahearn will be our contact person.
- A whole lot of others things were discussed and the entire future of the club was decided down to the last detail. All of those things were promptly forgotten as heavy drinking ensued. But wait!! There was Something Wrong in East Somerville that night, and it was that NO ONE (at least, no one in our little group) was drinking alcoholic beverages that evening. How do these things happen?? We may never know, so all of the forgetfulness can be chalked up to something else, and we'll have to decide everything all over again at the September meeting. Hope to see you there.
