Somerville Road Runners Meeting February 12, 2001
USATF races/team captains:
The club is interested in having a good turnout for Melrose 1/2 Marathon on March 11. For all USATF races the club would like to put teams together; teams are open (m,f), masters (m,f), and seniors (m,f). The idea to get a committee together that would put together these teams for the 7 USATF races was introduced. Steve Pepe volunteered to be the master's m&w team captain for Melrose. Nancy Doherty is doing the women's open teams. Peter Brook is doing men's open. Do not forget to put "SRR" on your USATF club app. (club # 131) please.
Also, regarding USATF participation. The club voted that if you do 5 out of 7 races in the calendar year in uniform, the club would pay the following year's membership to USATF for you. It will be the member's responsibility to notify SRR club president by Dec. 31, 2001.
Uniforms: They're coming...soon. New, delightfully designed uniforms are on their way. Please give singlet orders to Steve Burton, with size. We might examine alternatives to Marathon Sports for the jackets and hats.
Special K's: Khoury's Virgin Night is planned for April 26. Free CD Night is last Thursday in March. We also have the pasta dinner night, the Thursday before the Boston Marathon. We are looking for more ideas though.
Web site management: Nancy Given, Jim (sign of the devil) Sullivan, Beatrice Pulliam and John Moran have all expressed interest. They may split up duties.
Race of the Month:
March 25:Charbo's, Dorchester
April 8: Doyle's, Jamaica Plain
May 20: Dee Zucarro, Somerville!!!
Boston M waivers: In the future, all but one of the waivers will be given to paid club members who have volunteered their time to the club in the past year. It will be the responsibility of the members to request waivers from the president; members should list their volunteer activities. A committee (the board) will decide who gets the other waiver.
Volunteer Opportunities: Timing, timing, timing. The little fairies who used to come to Khoury's and miraculously do the timing and fax the results are GONE. Please do your part and help out. This consists of helping to time, faxing to 3 papers and making sure that the results get to the person who posts them. Also, An Ras Mor volunteers are needed, please email or call Steve Pepe or Ed O'Connor to sign up.
Race Updates:
An Ras Mor (March 17):Working on permit, need volunteers, come drink some beer and help celebrate St. Patrick's Day with SRR.
Summer Steamer (June 10): (part of Hockomock Swamp Rat series) Have permit!!! Working on advertising and beer sponsors.
24 Hour Relay, Ultra, Marathon (August 3-4):Get teams together or be insane like some people and try to run for an obnoxiously long time. Larry Horlick is looking for a co-race director!! Please contact the president or Larry himself if you are interested. Larry knows what he's doing, so don't feel like you'll be floundering in the dark. And if you can just help out a little on PRE-race stuff, that's great, too!!
Publicity director: To be brought up at another time.
Aurelio race: To benefit the Polci family. SRR member Aurelio Polci died at 34, leaving a wife and three young children. We will do a memorial Thursday night run on July 19 a Special K. Proceeds will go to the Polci family.
Boston Marathon 30k Water Stop: March 4!!! Email Robin or Karin. We need volunteers. It is fun to watch other people do a training run and suffer.
