1/2) Money We have some.
1) GGG Volunteers/Pepe - TrackPac Volunteers still needed! Contact Janet Montgomery if you are able to help out. The TrackPac will supply some workers as they receive a donation from us during the year. The Auxilliary Police and the Pac are the best investments we have with regard to donations. [note look at other charities which we may be able to benefit to spread around our contributions during the year.]
2) Khoury's/Casey's Scott hopes to have Khoury's open by Jan 1, but it
could be later given permits/licenses/bureaucracy.
Possibility of doing a "Last Casey's Run". It was also brought to the table, that Casey's
had requested that the club take over their race that they put on in
the summer. We will discuss this at Dec.'s meeting.
2.5) Mill Cities Relay 7-8 teams possible, still filling them. SRR is the only club from greater Boston invited to compete, all others are from Merrimack Valley in MA and NH.
3)Winter Challenge One of the club's traditional 4 races for the year - winter breakfast run from Khoury's. Dan suggested scheduling as reopening event for K's, looking at a Feb. date. Question if it would be ready even then. Tom Haggerty volunteered to help Dan direct, with Dan noting that the event must retain its eccentricities. Will hold off final decision for a month.
4)Track Meet Dan called Jack Connolly re: using Somerville HS, but with his help, looks to have secured the NEW Tufts track. It will be held on a Sunday morning. 1/27 is Tufts' preferred date for SRR use, but will look into Feb 3 or 10 (as holiday party conflict; see below). Steve V will work on schedule, equipment, and outlining volunteer needs. The events will be all running: kids events, men, women, masters, 3000 or 2 mile, dash, 400, 800 adn 200, mile and perhaps a relay.
5) Steamer Date? Want to avoid Bunker Hill race date. 9th is preferred and tentative date. Don't want Fathers' Day. Robin to look at calendars to check other conflicts.
6) BAA numbers, waterstop Good authority that we may get 10 time-waiver numbers for Boston Marathon. Concensus that 5 would be distributed on merit, 5 by lottery "with strings", that is, will require some sort of prior or commitment to volunteering at events. Must also be a 2001 SRR member to be eligible.
7) community posters-placement Desire for SRR to draw from community and
retain community connections. Bi-lingual poster* has been designed and will distributde widely in Somerville
community. Also look at other charities which we may be able to benefit to
spread around our contributions during the year.
* We need someone who can converse in Spanish as contact to list on posters... any one speak Spanish?
8) Holiday Party Decided on Friday January 25, same venue as last year. Janet, Tom, Mamata volunteered to work on it.
9) New Years Day event no desire expressed to run any event on 1/1
10)USATF fees for out of state races Proposal for the club to pay entry fees for club members at out-of-state Grand Prix races (2 events in 2002 fall into this category). Voted "no" - consensus was the entry fee was not a determent at these races.
11) Running lights Strongly recommended to wear reflective item during winter runs, and to avoid challenging traffic, as too many chances of things getting "icky" on Thursday nights otherwise.
12) Races of the Month:
13) New Business:
Tent - Dave Brno - need for sturdy/strong club tent
Come up with list of community charities - Tom H
Toys for Tots collection at Casey's
Casey's September road race - does the club want to take over organizing this race for Casey's?
Meeting adjourned around 8:30, as the Irish dancers began to take over the Back Room
