Mt.Vernon Restaurant

1/2) MoneyWe got some. Still waiting for final accounting of Summer Steamer. Gave 2 x $500 scholarships to Somerville HS TrackPack. Little Flower School still to get donation from Summer Steamer. Beatrice P announced that, in response to her taking over the editorship of the newsletter, there was good return by members on receiviing the Newletter by email or from the website in a PDF format. That will reduce both printing and postage costs.

1) USATF — 9/17 meetingAsked for reps to attend meeting; SRR has 2 votes. USATF-NE Voting procedure that will be presented will be to have one person/one vote which gives clubs who can attend with larger numbers more votes. Club has under 40 USATF members (of 160+ club members). Will investigate ways to promote membership, as well as packaging membership, USATF, uniform as options. Look for the not-necessarily high level racers to support the sport's organization. Steve P noted that any runner who runs 5 of 7 USATF championships gets their next year's SRR membership fee waived. Motion to donate $100 to USATF-NE in recognition of the organization's support. Passed.

2) Lake Winnie/money4 teams ready to run, may have a few substitute openings. Condos are biggest expense. Steve B asked for club to defray part of condo in case of shortfall after all income received. Fee is $50 for entry and one night lodging, $70 for 2 nights. There is a deposit in, but will be getting it back.

3) December/January ROTM

Note: found out on Tuesday that Santa Scamper would conflict with Winter Challenge; in process of looking at event schedule for December.

4) Winter Challenge-date December 16. Didn't want conflict w/ Mill Cities Relay or Jamaica

5) TriGobble New site: Burren in Davis Square. Ed O'Conner director, was at meeting same night.
Discussion on which charity to support, led to general topic of linking each race to specific charity. Noted that initial entry form did not promote the club as prominently as it should.

6) Timing company Bay State gave $50/race discount this year for doing multiple events (3). Other options to be reviewed to get best deal of quality and price for 2002 events.

7) Homeless 5K-donationMoved and passed, that club give $250 to become a sponsor of event.

8) Special Ks "Double Die"/2 lapper on Sept 27, as one hasn't been run this year. Karin T to produce entry, noted that it was same night of Cal Ripkin's last appearance as player at Fenway Park. (Doubtful that he will be at the race). No other specials scheuduled.

12) Jamaica Money is due for the 12/8 race. Space still available.

13) BAA Jimmy Fund walk Group coordinated by Tom Haggerty has been solidified. Also was asked by Paul Clark to supply volunteers. Duty spot is TJRyans, 1 1/2 miles into the course, allowing task to be started early (real early) bug also completed early. Also looking to pull together work group for BAA 1/2 Marathon. Will obtain vol applications which will be marked as being from SRR, and what the deadline is for vols. While most communications for these efforts - and other - tends to be on the listserver now, there is still a need to get out some one page notes mailings to those who are not on the list.

13 1/2) — Community recruitment Dan emphasized the need to build and retain goodwill in the community, as most of the club are non-Somerville residents. The club has a good reputation with the city and other organizations. Donations should be going to local (Somerville based) programs, projects, and charities. All this builds into being able to put on our events during the year. Dan also noted the need to get more community folk involved in the club and events to retain an eclectic mix. One way would be to offer some youth activities with races.

14) PepeagendaLooking into fieldtrip to Fleet Center for Celtics game, likely $10 tix Possible hiking trip Nov 2-3 on part of Appalachain Trail.
