The Somerville Road Runner's Grand Prix Series (SRR-GPS) includes nineteen
races and many, many volunteer opportunities. SRR members in good standing who complete nine of the selected races and
volunteer three times, will be rewarded with SRR logo gear in early 2009.
Standings.
SRR Grand Prix standings are updated quasi-regularly.

The Races.
The series is composed of the 19 races that make up "Race of the
Month" (12) and the USATF Grand Prix Series Races (7). You are responsible
for your own registration fees.

Volunteer Opportunities.
Nearly everything SRR hosts or participates in depends on volunteers. No doubt,
you've heard the call for help timing at Khoury's,
checking bags at Gobble, Gobble, Gobble, manning a water stop at the Boston
Marathon, etc. These examples, and many others, qualify as serving the running
community.
How to Participate.
Each time you complete a Race of the Month/USATF Grand Prix Race or service
activity, e-mail or hand a note to the SRR-GPS coordinator Jonathan Davey. Include your name, the
event name, if you ran/volunteered. The coordinator will keep a tally, which
we'll update from time to time on the SRR website. Then, come next January,
we'll honor those who've met the challenge with their prizes!
Just A Few Requirements.
(1) To qualify for a point for a race, the member must run for Somerville Road
Runners. That means, for USATF races, if you are a member of USATF, you must
write Somerville Road Runners, (Club 131) on the application. If you run a
non-USATF race and there is a club/team category, you must write Somerville
Road Runners on the application. Members are of course welcome to run on behalf
of other clubs (we have many people who are members of more than one club); we
ask that you not request GPS credit.
(2) Races of the Month are selected by the membership online using a Yahoo
polling website. Only votes registered by that system will be counted. Votes
are not allowed via e-mail, voice or other method. Ties will be broken by the
GPS coordinator.
(3) SRR races (An Ras Mor,
Summer Steamer, 24 Hour, and Gobble, Gobble, Gobble) are exempt from nomination
as Race of the Month to encourage volunteering at those races. Members are also
requested to avoid nominating certain types of races including those that are
relays, are the same day as key events (Mill Cities, for example) or races that
somehow preclude specific runners (women only races, for example). The GPS
coordinator has discretion to set aside a nomination for these and other
reasons.
(4) Only 3 Volunteer events will be noted on the tally. The club certainly
appreciates those who do more.
Any way you look at it, SRR-GPS is good for you, SRR, and running as a
whole.
