Somerville Road Runners Grand Prix Series 2007 FAQ
1. Do I have to do all the SRR GPS races?
You are welcome to do so, but for the Grand Prix Series, just nine of them are required. (Hey, people have lives!)
2. What exactly is considered a "volunteer activity"?
Helping with pretty much any running event hosted by SRR or another organization qualifies. Hosting a long run qualifies. Driving your clubmates to Hopkinton qualifies. If in doubt, contact the SRR-GPS coordinator.
3. If I do two things at one event, does that count as two volunteer activities?
If you help with registration, then work the finish line at the same event, that's considered one volunteer activity. And, thanks!
4. Is there a fee to participate in Grand Prix Series?
You'll need to cover the cost of SRR membership and the cost of the races you enter. There are no fees beyond those. (If you chose to compete for points/money in the USATF Grand Prix Series, you will need to be a member of USATF.)
5. Do I have to be a member of USATF to run in or get GPS credit for races that are part of the USATF NE Grand Prix?
No, you can run these races, and count them toward the SRR Grand Prix without being a USATF member. The club does field teams at these races in competition with other clubs. To score for those teams (and win money) you must be a USATF member.
6. What if I'm not fast? What if I can't run a 10 mile race?
This is not about speed or distance, but about participation. Every member, beginners through experienced, can participate. We try to select a variety of races so that those who prefer shorter events as well as marathoners can find races to that are fun and challenging.
7. Who chooses the Races of the Month?
The club does. Members offer nominations and members are asked to vote online.
8. Will you check to see if I really ran the race I said I did?
We are confident members can be trusted to accurately report their efforts.
9. How many people will participate?
In 2006 10 people were awarded SRR hats for completion of the second year of the series.
10. Do other clubs do this?
Yes, that's in part where we got the idea.
11. Who do I contact with more questions?
The SRR-GPS Coordinator, Jonathan Davey..
