OK, I never do doubles on a weekend for racing. As a coach I would be remiss in condoning such behavior, but this weekend afforded an opportunity to run a couple of important and fun races so I took the plunge along with a few other SRR members. First off I want to thank the runners who came up early on a Saturday morning to participate in the USATF Bedford 12K. Through their efforts we were able to have scoring teams in Mens Open, Mens Masters and Womens Open. I'd especially like to thank Nancy "I have three kids and a husband I'll just drag along" Doherty, Tamara "I have to pack up my apartment and move plus do a long bike ride this weekend but I'll still make the race" Toselli and Carol "Pick me up at 6:30 AM? I've never seen that hour in my life" Lahiff for making the trek up north. We needed 3 women to score as a team and we got three. Also thanks to Peter Brook, Steve Pepe, Mark Hemenway, Larry Horlick, Steve Vaitones and John Gorvin for competing for the Masters team and Jimmy Normile, Jim "I'm going to do a track workout right after the race" Sullivan and Chris Valcourt for scoring for the Mens Open team.
So Sunday dawns, it's a nice day and the SRR race of the month Dee Zuccaro 5K doesn't start until 1 PM, what the heck might as well run it. Big turnout for SRR (must have been the sushi they were offering at this years post-race bash) with Peter Brook, Steve Pepe, Jimmy Normile, Nancy Doherty, Carol Lahiff, Steve Vaitones and Jim Sullivan all racing again. A few even washed their singlets in-between races....Great SRR presence, another win for Chris Ahearn, second place finish in the Womens division for Nancy Doherty, Clydesdale division win for Dan Solomon, Filly division win for Bodil Thomas, and Frankie Keane wins hte 60+ division yet again. Check out photos that are posted on the Dee Zuccaro results page. Lots of SRR faces (sometimes twice) and nice team pictures at the end.
