James Joyce 10K Ramble
Dedham, MA
April 30, 2001

Boy did we Ramble. 41, count 'em, 41, SRR members participated that Nancy G. and I could count. Though many weren't listed as SRR I think we found them all. Results and a few photos will be on the web page soon. Team results aren't ready yet (it could be awhile...) but we definitely had scoring teams in Men's Open, Women's Open and Men Masters. Hillary ran a PR ("chip" time), Amy Beeman beat her last years time, Chris Ahearn roared back after fighting the mid-race hills (imagine my surprise after passing Chris about mile 3 on a steep incline to see him at my side at about mile 5.8), new members David Roberts, Chris Valcourt, Kim Abrams, Diane Sartanowicz, John and Lynne Benson, Bob Pomeroy (gets award for most creative faux-SRR singlet), Sommer Settel, Meaghan Wertheim (coming of a 3:26 Boston) ran. Don't know exact results yet for sure but think the Women's team did quite well again at this USATF competition. I'd like to give special props to Women's Team Captain Nancy Doherty who ran with the flu and hadn't slept in a few nights because of her kids having the flu before she got it. "We are SRR, not tissue paper" for sure, Nancy really gave it up for the team. Also accolades to Frankie Keane, who it looks like scored 5th in the 60-69 division, garnering himself some more USATF individual points. Team visibility was very high (possibly some of the team also...), with 41 of us out there and the tent attracting a lot of runners after the race. More than a few came up and took apps and asked questions. One woman I spoke to said she had seen "so many" of SRR running Boston that she wanted to check us out.
