2012-13 SRR Elected Officer Candidates

  President
Candidate: Kate O'Malley
SRR member since: 10 years
Statement: I've been on the board for the past two years - first as Member at Large and then as Vice President.  I've learned a lot and have enjoyed the experience.  I hope to follow in Heather's footsteps in helping to ensure this is the best running club in the Boston area.  :-)
  Vice President
Kate Blumberg

Candidate:  Molly Crellin
SRR member since: 2005
Statement: I have been a member of SRR since 2005.  In that time, I have participated in many club events, from volunteering, to attending long runs, Khoury's/Casey's, and track, to training with other members for multiple half-marathons, 16 marathons, 5 Bostons, and even a half-ironman triathlon.  I have run with the Fighting Guppies, a mostly SRR team, the last three years at Reach the Beach.  My most meaningful SRR memory, while there a many, was qualifying for Boston at the 2008 Philadelphia marathon with two other SRRs.  Most recently, I have held the position of volunteer coordinator. As volunteer coordinator, I attended all but one monthly board meeting.  I coordinated the An Ras Mor, the Summer Steamer, a water stop for the inaugural BAA 10k, medals at the finish line for the BAA half, the jumbo stampede, and a table at the Somerville community event, amongst other things.  I am also currently serving on the Somerville High School SRR scholarship committee.

I want to be Vice President because our running club and is extremely important to me.  The mission of our club is the reason I joined in the first place.  It is important to me that we are good ambassadors of the running community and that we do our best to make a difference in the city of Somerville and the greater Boston area.  I like that the club offers something for everyone - whether you want to be nose-to-the grindstone or spend your Sunday afternoons at Sligo, there's something for everyone.  No matter where I am in my training or lack-thereof (my unfortunate current status).  I always feel like there is a place for me.  I have made friendships that I hope will last a lifetime and enjoy watching newcomers to the club form similar friendships.  I am confident I can do a good job.  I am extremely organized and enjoy being involved.  As Vice-President, I plan to attend as many club events as I can.  I would like to find more ways for SRR to be a positive presence in Somerville.

Treasurer (two candidates - one position available)

Candidate:  Stephanie Finnegan
SRR member since: 2005 (lived in Ireland for 2 years)
Statement:  As a Certified Public Accountant and auditor, I regularly perform audits for not-for-profit organizations including bookkeeping, preparing financial statements, evaluating internal control procedures and filing federal and state tax returns. I think my knowledge and experience could benefit the run club. [ Also, I met my husband in SRR seven years ago and I want to give back to the club ;) ]

Candidate:  Larry Horlick (seeking re-election)
SRR member since:  more than 15years
Statement: I have been an SRR member for more than 15 years.  I was one of the first few members after Paul Collyer started the club.  For the past 10 years, I have served as SRR treasurer.  Also, I have been one of the race directors of the 24 Hour race for 7 years.  As treasurer, last year I started using Quickbooks to allow closer tracking of SRR income and expenses.  I have run over 30 marathons.
  Secretary/Clerk

Candidate:  Scott Abrams (seeking re-election)
SRR member since:  2005
Statement: My name is Scott Abrams and I am the current Secretary of the Somerville Road Runners. Next to the President, Vice-President and Treasurer, I am the most important board member. I am proud of my record of never abusing my Secretarial powers. Because let's face facts, I could change the face of the club. There are some little known bi-laws in the official charter that provide the Secretary with almost unlimited control. For instance, at my insistence, all female club members running in club-sanctioned events would have to wear skorts no shorter than 3/4 inches below the knee. I can put an end to the days of SRR members running without carrying imported cheese. On a whim I can change the length of a kilometer. Who else are you going to trust with this kind of responsibility? If re-elected, I promise to maintain the same level of professionalism and cleanliness you've come to expect from your board members. The one caveat being that anyone who runs faster then me will have to stuff weights into his or her pants.

Members-At-Large (three candidates - two positions available)

Candidate:  Aaron Beer
SRR member since:  November 2009
Statement: I joined SRR at the end of November 2009. In that time, I've run in many races and volunteered at others. I was a team captain for one of the 26x1 teams in 2010. Also, I'm a regular at track workouts on Tuesdays. I arrived with the ambition that the club would bring out the best in me. I'm pleased to say that it has, but at the same time I feel I can accomplish more. As a Member at Large, I would be committed to all meetings and activities. It would use the opportunity to share ideas and concerns on topics that come up. When the time comes to step up, you cannot hold back. I see myself being a club member for many years. With your vote, I can help champion the outstanding success our club has achieved. I thank you for your time.

Candidate:  Tim Morin (seeking re-election)
SRR member since:  2008
Statement: I've been an active club member for four years now. In that time the club has helped me make good strides in my running and I've been able to help other runners get better along the way. I'm able to regularly attend all club events and board meetings.  I've been able to give back to the club over the past year by being a member at large and feel like my presence has been beneficial. I would like to continue my current role and I think I'll be able to continue helping the club.
Candidate:  Tina Tobey
SRR member since:  2006
Statement: I enjoy training with the club and the great support SRR provides.  I think, however, I have the most fun volunteering at club-sponsored and community events.  It's great being able to give back to a group of people that have given me so much.  I have been interested in becoming more involved with SRR for the past year and Member-At-Large seems a perfect introduction to the Executive Board, and the club's processes at the executive and planning level.  I am excited to join the board meetings and to find how I can continue my growth and participation in SRR.

The club’s 2012 officer elections will take place at our Annual Meeting on Monday March 5th.
The elected officers will then appoint several additional positions critical to club leadership.
