How long have you been running? About 12 years
What made you decide to begin running? All of my friends were doing indoor track, so I didn't want to be left out!
Did you run competitively in high school? I was on the track and cross country teams, but I was in it more for the social aspects until about my senior year when I realized I was more successful at the longer races, something I had been trying to deny.
Did you run competitively in college? I joined the Cornell team as a sophomore and got my butt kicked for about two years before deciding just to train on my own. It was fun, but it's hard being in a super-competitive environment all the time. (I met former SRR-stud Claire Ryan (now Saxton) running at Cornell!)
When / why did you join SRR? The club came highly recommended from Claire, and I was a very active member (and webmaster) of my old club, DC Road Runners.
Total number races: Not sure of exact number; I don't race too often but I have done many over the years.
Favorite race (and why): Hmm. I really enjoyed the Runner's World Half Marathon this past spring. It is kind of in the middle of nowhere, but great course (scenic and not too hilly) and well-organized, plus an awesome post-race food selection, always key. I also liked the Philadelphia Marathon, mostly because the weather tends to be to my liking (in the 40s and 50s.)
Favorite race distance: marathon
Favorite runner: Lauren Fleshman
Favorite running shoe: Asics and Brooks
Average miles per week: usually, 55-65, just coming back from an injury right now
Most MPW Ever: 71 (I think)
Best running memory: Qualifying for Boston at Marine Corps 2001 after a very painful first marathon the spring before.
Worst running memory: Getting stung by a bee on my butt during a HS XC race!

Running PR's (when and where): Although I'm obsessive about keeping track of my mileage, the same isn't true for my PRs. I'll give it my best shot...
         Khoury's: never done it
5K: around 20:00, I think (not my strong suit)
         10K: 42-something
         4 mile: 26-something?
         5 mile: 33-something?
         10 mile: 1:11
20 mile: only done as "training races" — around 2:43
         Half-marathon: 1:36
Marathon: 3:33 (have run this exact time four times and know I can break it!)
Favorite time of day: late morning
Favorite sport other than running: biking/swimming
Favorite author: Jhumpa Lahiri
Favorite book: Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
Favorite actor: Paul Rudd
Favorite actress: Julia Stiles
Favorite TV show: (currently) The Apprentice
Favorite movie: don't have one, too many to choose from!
Favorite musician: Indigo Girls and Patty Griffin
Favorite song: I could never choose!
Favorite politician: let's just say it's not George W. Bush
Favorite cereal: Grape Nuts
Favorite food: I love all food.
Favorite ice cream: Purity of Ithaca, NY — any flavor!
Favorite restaurant: Tono Sushi in Washington, DC
Favorite car: never thought about it
For the women: Sean Connery or Pierce Brosnan? Pierce.

Fill in the blank: I like it when my family and friends are healthy and happy. I hate it when my runs are not pain-free.

Philosophy: If it's not fun, why do it?
