How long have you been running?
27 years.
What made you decide to begin running?
Went out for track in 8th grade (spring 1976) to keep
busy after school (when 400m was considered "long"). First road race in June of 1978.
Did you run competitively in high school? Yes, ran track in 8th grade, and again starting in
10th grade. Did everything from 400m to Triple Jump to High Hurdles to High Jump.
Ran cross-country starting in 11th when I knew I would get cut from soccer (fastest runner
when we did a mile run was a hint).
Did you run competitively in college? Yes, one semester of cross country my junior year.
Broke 6:00 pace in every race and STILL finished last in every race. But I was in the best
shape of my life.
When / why did you join SRR?: Spring 2001. When I moved here, I put a random post
asking which club I should join. Dan Solomon chimed in first, best and loudest.
Total number races: Hmmm... easily 200, maybe 300 if you count weekly fun races like Khoury's.
Lost count YEARS ago.
Total number of marathons: 6 finished. 1 DNF.
Favorite race (and why): Riverside (amusement park now known as Six Flags New England)
Twilight 5 Miler. Defunct. Fast course run on a Sunday night, finished on a car race track oval.
THEN got free beer and admission to the amusement park.
Favorite race distance: 5 Miles.
Favorite runner: Bill Rodgers. Amazed that he STILL runs fast.
Favorite running shoe: New Balance 876 and its descendants.
Weekly mileage: 10-15 (famous for under training) but I do a LOT of cross-training.
Best running memory: The chill I got turning the corner onto Boylston in the Marathon
the first time, I made sure to slap hands all the way down the street.
Worst running memory: Unplanned Pit Stop while running ('nuff said).

Favorite sport other than running: Lots. Volleyball. Ultimate Frisbee.
