How long have you been running?
Inconsistently, since I was five. However, I've been running on a consistent basis for about seven years.
What made you decide to begin running? My parents were both into running when
I was young. My father often took my brother and I to road races. Although
I never ran competitively in school, I ran quite a bit on my own to stay in shape
for football, basketball, and baseball. When my playing days ended, I decided
I ought to get more serious about my running and go after all my Dad's PRs!
Total number races: I've only been keeping a log for about three years...
so, my best guess is somewhere around 100, dating back to the Great Pumpkin 1 mile
kid's race in Saco, Maine when I was 5.
Favorite race (and why): Cape Ann 25K. The course is beautiful and challenging,
and it's a great tune-up for a fall marathon.
Favorite race distance: 10K
Favorite runner: Joan Benoit Samuelson
Favorite running shoe: Brooks Glycerin
Best running memory: Breaking three hours at the Maine Marathon in 2001 and
running my first Boston last Monday.
Worst running memory: Struggling through leg cramps on the hills last Monday. [Boston Marathon, April 21, 2003]
