How long have you been running?
[since] 1988.
What made you decide to begin running?
I always wanted to run a marathon so while taking
a year off from college I began training for the 1988 Marine Corps Marathon and got hooked.
I also had dreams of some day becoming president of a running club.
Did you run competitively in high school? No
Did you run competitively in college? No
Total number races: No idea. It was tough enough to dig through the archives to find out
what my PRs are.
Favorite race (and why): The old Flaherty Five Miler in Cambridge. A great small race
that didn't advertise. The post race was great and just about everybody won a bottle of wine or
case of beer in the raffle.
Favorite race distance: Marathon
Favorite runner: Frank Shorter
Favorite running shoe: Nike Pegasus
Weekly mileage: 40-55 when training for a marathon, otherwise 20-30
Best running memory: The 1990 Hyannis Marathon. The only time while running a marathon
that I was in "the zone." It was also the first time that I had qualified for Boston.
Worst running memory: Boston 1990. Running six weeks after Hyannis Marathon was absolute torture.
Running PR's (when and where):

Fill in the blank: I like it when The weather is perfect for a run; 50 degrees and cloudy.
I hate it when it is pushing 90 degrees and you have to do a long run.
Philosophy: You get out of your training what you put in.
