How long have you been running?
20 years, keeping a log.
What made you decide to begin running?
It's in my blood... I can't sit still.
Did you run competitively in high school? No, I played soccer
Did you run competitively in college? No, but wish I had. Bob Hodge was on [our] team, who later
was 3rd at Boston in 1979 behind Bill Rodgers and Seko.
When / why did you join SRR?: 6 years ago, they needed me to score for the Masters team.
I enjoyed hanging out at Khoury's, so I finally made it official.
Total number races: Appoximately 655. This includes all the fun runs I've run for the last 20 years too.
Total number of marathons: I think the Johnny Miles Marathon in Nova Scotia this week will be #79.
Favorite race (and why): St. George Marathon, Utah great scenery and it drops 3,500 feet.
Maui Marathon, Steamboat Springs Colorado & Taos New Mexico all great locations too.
Favorite race distance: I think I enjoy training for the marathon, better than actually running it.
Favorite runner: Peter Brook. He always runs Pedal to the Medal 110% in every race he enters.
Favorite running shoe: Saucony Hurricane 3D Grid
Weekly mileage: About 30-40 miles for the last 20 years.
Most MPW Ever: 85 miles, I was laid off, and was PR'ing every distance.
Best running memory: Feeling great on the last 10K of the Philadelphia marathon in 1995 and not
believing my eyes, when it read 3:05:38 at the finish, a negative split that day!
Also at Bridgeport, CT, Bill Rodgers ran a 40 minute 10K, and I was able to keep up with him
the whole race. He talked the whole way to a bunch of us who were just trying to hang on...
Worst running memory: Getting 3 IVs after Boston, had to do this a few different years
(any year I tried to run it hard), and also had to work later that night at 11pm.
Running PR's (when and where):
