Welcome to the Race to the Row

The Somerville Road Runners are proud to present the 7th annual Race to the Row in Assembly Square in our hometown of Somerville, MA. It's a series of events through Assembly Square and along the Mystic River. We have a Fast Mile, a 5K and a FREE Kids Fun Run! The 5K is open to runners, walkers, teams and families of all ages and abilities, ending with a fun-filled post-race party with food, drinks and beer served from the local restaurants and businesses! All proceeds will benefit East Somerville Main Streets as well as Somerville TrackPAC.

We'll start off with the Fast Mile, a 1 mile loop race in Assembly Row open to all ages. Runners in the mile must be able to complete the distance in 10 minutes or less. If you're planning on running the 5K as well, it's only $5 more to register to run the mile! Next is the free 1/8 mile Kid's Fun Run (age 9 and under) before the race with all kids getting a medal!

The first 400 registrants (signed up by August 1) to the 5K are guaranteed to receive a t-shirt, and all 5K and Mile registrants, and all volunteers will get free food, drinks and dessert afterward! But everyone can participate in the post-race festivities. Others can pay $10 to be able to eat and drink along with them. There will be an awards ceremony following the race for top finishers and age-group winners in Mens, Womens and Wheelchair divisions as well as team awards. All individual winners get medals!

PLEASE NOTE: We will have free bag check at the race for all runners. You are welcome to run with a stroller. We just ask that you DO NOT position yourself near the front. Unfortunately, your canine friends are NOT allowed to run in the races, so please leave them at home. Sorry.

If you enjoy the Race to the Row and would like to be more involved, we'd love for you to lend a hand. There are many different types of tasks we need help with on race day, as well as early registration pickup the day before.

Sign up to volunteer online at: Race to the Row Volunteer Sign Up Form.

We're building up our prizes list now! Men's, Women's and Wheelchair top finishers and age-group winners will get prizes. And all individual winners get Race to the Row medals!! Largest team and fastest team will also get prizes, so keep recruiting runners to your teams. We are still building are prize list for the categories!

Post-race Party

Things are still in the works, but every year is keeps getting bigger and better! After coming through the finish of the 5K, runners will be guided back to the post-race party. Bananas aplenty will be available thanks to Boston Organics. Your post-race meal will be provided by Ernesto's Pizza. Quench your thirst with beer from Harpoon (21+ only). Other beverages will be provided as well. And dessert comes from another local favorite and one of our big sponsors, JP Licks, who is providing multiple flavors of ice cream to choose from. We are planning on serving gluten-free and vegan options. For those who aren't running or walking the 5K, you can pay $10 to enjoy the food, beer and activities of the party.

And this year again, for the kids, we will have a bouncy house. It's free for all kids to play in. We will have volunteers stationed there throughout to ensure safety.

When you get off the T, follow the signs for Foley Street. You will go over a bridge and down a flight of stairs. When you are on Foley Street, head away from the T station. You should see our race headquarters on your right. You can use the MBTA Trip Planner to help out.

If you plan on driving, there are free parking lots in Assembly Square which you will be guided towards on the day of the race. You can get directions by entering your starting address:

There will be signs directing you to registration and bag check. These will all be situated in a roped-off area of a parking lot off Foley St.. All participants can leave their bags with our volunteers at the starting area and they will be at the same place when they finish. There will also be signs pointing runners to the starting areas of the races.

About our Charities

Since our inaugural year in 2013, we have donated $18,500 to East Somerville Main Streets. ESMS is a non-profit organization dedicated to rebuilding the East Broadway Business District as the heart of the East Somerville community and as a vibrant destination, and improving the quality of life of all those who live in or visit East Somerville. This is accomplished through volunteer-driven events and initiatives which play off of the unique characteristics of the neighborhood in order to further develop that character.

We've donated $5,500 to Somerville TrackPAC, which provides college scholarships for Somerville High School students.

We've also donated $3,500 to the Somerville Auxiliary Police.
