All rules intended to make a fair race for all teams.  The Race Committee will have the final say on application of the rules.

  • The race is meant to be run by 26 runners, all running a complete mile, with one of those runners doing an additional speed leg at the end to make the full marathon distance.  Team shall be comprised of equal numbers of men and women with the following caveats:

    • Acknowledging that organizing large groups is difficult, we will allow a variance of 1 (ex: 14F-12M will be allowed) so long as it is done in good faith and not to seek a competitive advantage

    • Accommodations will be made for teams with non-binary athletes, please just let the race committee know

    • Per the note below, teams unable to comply may still participate but will be ineligible for team awards

      • All female teams who have participated prior to 2021 are exempt from this rule.

    • Teams must have a min of 24 runners, are allowed to have 2 runners "double" so long as they do not break the gender rule, and as a good faith the Race Committee ask that runners who double are not done so to gain an advantage (aka not running your fast runner twice).  This is intended for instances of injuries, last minute drops, etc. and should not be used as strategy.

    • Any individual runner may be subbed out for another rostered runner before the start of their leg at the individual runner check-in table without penalty (given accordance with rule above).  (Note: Roster may include “back-up” runners not assigned a leg)

  • In addition to the substitution rule, teams without the correct number of runners (either gender breakdown or doubling more than 2 runners) will get a time, but will be removed from team awards. All individuals on non-compliant teams will still be eligible for individual awards.

  • In the event of an injury on the track, a team may decide to start the leg again with a new runner or take the penalty per lap for all incomplete laps.

    • If starting a new runner, the leg will be considered to be started fresh, and the new runner must:

      • Run a complete mile - starting at the normal starting location. They may start w/o a baton.

        • If possible, note the clock time when they start – but getting an accurate individuals split is a secondary concern

      • The runner must pick up the baton before finishing their mile.

      • If possible to preserve the replacement runners split – this will be done via an override

  • Any missing laps - either by error or injury  - will be penalized at 4 minutes/lap.

  • A runner cannot run for two clubs
