President
Ben Spaulding
Hello SRR. My name is Ben Spaulding and I am running for President of the Somerville Road Runners.
I originally started running with SRR, tagging along with my friend Josh, at a Casey's Thursday night run in October 2018. A few weeks later I became an official member, and have been running with SRR ever since. I have been on the SRR Board for the past five years, first as a member at large, then Vice President for two years, and currently as President for the past two years. I have also served the club as the Bur-Run coordinator since April 2021, founded the WMRC, been a Mill Cities co-captain, race director for the MOM’s Run, and have been a member of the Gobble and 26x1 race committees the past four years.
The SRR community has given me more than I ever could have imagined. My wife and I moved to Somerville in 2010 and for years I ran on my own and worked a job in Back Bay, but during that time I never felt like I was a part of the community. When I joined SRR all that changed. I got to meet and run with so many amazing people, participate and volunteer at countless races and events, and most importantly, give back to the community I lived in. The SRR community helped make the place I lived become my home, and I am forever grateful for that. This is what motivates me to run for President and help lead this amazing organization: to promote the sport of running, to encourage and motivate others to do great things, to give back, and to foster community.
I am running for President in 2026, and if re-elected as President I will continue to work with the board and the club on ways we can continuously improve the organization and local running community for all types of runners, including:
Help the club be really good at what we do - be a top notch community running group that has something for everyone and that is welcoming to all. I believe that this is our greatest asset. Generations of SRR have made this possible, and it will be our responsibility to make sure it continues.
Continuing to grow participation in club activities that are welcoming and exciting for all types of runners, and work with the board to expand membership value for SRR club members.
Continue to improve the management of the club, working with board members to regularly evaluate our day-to-day operations. As the club grows and diversifies, I believe this to be a priority to ensure that the organization can operate efficiently and scale effectively.
Along the lines of improving SRR operations, improve club communication, including exploring new communication tools like Discord and improve use of the email listserv.
Recruit and train the next generation of SRR leaders. There are many talented and motivated people in the club who can lead the next generation of SRR. I hope to encourage those people to step up into coordinator and leadership roles throughout 2026.
I can’t tell all of you how much I have loved being a part of this club and community. It has been an honor to help carry on the traditions of SRR and help make new ones with all of you. As President of SRR, I will work my hardest to continue to make our running community one that welcomes all, and is one that we are all proud to be a part of.
Thank you for your consideration.
Vice President
Kim Lund
My name is Kim Lund, and I am running for Vice President of SRR!
I’ve been a member of SRR for the past three years, and have served on the Board as Member-at-Large for the past year. In addition to regularly attending weekly runs, track workouts, and races, I have been a volunteer at a number of SRR events, as well as a coordinator for large events like the 26x1 Relay, the Mill Cities Relay, and the Wintah Challenge. My primary goal as a leader is to ensure our club is always welcoming, accessible to everyone, inclusive, and fun. Here are some of my other goals:
Run Strong
Our members are fiercely passionate about reaching their goals, and I want SRR to be able to support you every step of the way, whether you’re chasing PR’s and podiums or just getting started in your running journey. I want to continue to find ways to connect members with similar training goals, expand our track and coaching access, offer a childcare option at select races, expand our SRR merchandise options and gear discounts, continue to offer run clinics on topics like strength training and nutrition, and continue our legacy as one of the best clubs in New England and the world.Have Fun
The beauty of SRR is that running is only a part of it. I want to expand our club’s lineup of social events like dinners, field trips, pre- and post- race meetups, and of course, fun runs, where you can get to know more people outside of your regular pace groups. And with so much happening, I’d like to review and update our communication systems, so you can more seamlessly stay connected to the groups and events that matter to you the most.Give Back
Last but definitely not least, I’d like to continue to strengthen our longstanding partnerships with local organizations, as well as explore new opportunities for SRR to volunteer, support, and give back to Somerville and Greater Boston.
With SRR participation bigger than ever before, there are a lot of voices to be heard. Outside of SRR, I have a career focused in customer experience analytics–basically, I summarize thousands (sometimes millions!) of voices to help organizations make decisions that benefit the people.
I joined SRR in early 2023 after making a New Years’ resolution to make more running friends after running solo for over a decade. I could have never imagined how many opportunities SRR would have given me to become a better runner and a better member of my community. I am extremely passionate about fostering a sense of community for members of all backgrounds and abilities, whether you’ve been in SRR for 20 seconds, or 20 years. I hope that I can be a part of giving back to SRR in 2026 and beyond!
Derek Lo
Hi SRR! My name is Derek Lo, and I’m running for Vice President.
I joined SRR in September 2023 and like many of you, quickly fell in love with the club. I found myself coming to the Bur-Run and Casey’s early on, later adding on the Squirrel Scramble and Weekend Long Runs to the mix, where I’ve had the pleasure to run with and get to know many of you.
During my time in SRR, I’ve served as a Member-at-Large on the board, as well as co-race director for the 2025 Gobble Road Race. I’ve also served as a coach for the SRR Kids Program the last three seasons, as well as a team captain at 26x1 and a member of the 2025 Mom’s Run and 2024 Gobble Race Committees. I’ve also volunteered at many events over the last few years, including the BAA Half Marathon, BAA 10K, Boston Marathon 30K Cheer Zone, and tabling at the Tufts Community and Arlington Town Days.
Some goals and plans I have if you elect me include continuing to foster a welcoming community for all members, regardless of whether you are running for the first time, trying for your first 5K to a marathon and beyond. Based on some feedback I’ve received from you all, I’d like to create more social events outside of running to help foster a stronger community within SRR. I plan on working to streamline our communications and operations to keep our club moving efficiently and in the right direction. In addition, I’d like to build on our existing relationships with local organizations to better embed the club within the Somerville community.
I’m excited for what the next year brings for SRR, and I hope you’ll join me on this journey with your vote for Vice President! Thank you!

Hi SRR!
I've been a member of the club since 2022 but have become much more active as a volunteer in the past year, supporting club events whenever possible (including MOM's Run, 26x1, Wintah Challenge, etc) and helping to coordinate SRR's presence at the USATF Grand Prix. I've really enjoyed getting involved in the initiatives and programs we provide to our members and local community, and am running for secretary or member at large because I'd love to do even more to contribute to the club's success. If re-elected, I would work with the club and board to expand the variety and reach of our events and initiatives, and to continue to make the club the welcoming and supportive community it is today.
Treasurer
Ewa Szilagyi
Member-At-Large (3 positions)
Courtney Towson
I would like to submit my name for a Member at Large position for 2026. I have been a member of the club since 2022 and led the SRR Kids Program for three years (2023-2025).
Currently, I am a member of the 26x1 committee. Now that I have transitioned the Kids Program to new leadership, I am eager to take on more responsibility with that race and within the club in general.
I regularly participate in Track and attend a lot of the special events and races SRR puts on. I have attended board meetings to represent the Kids program and would like to learn what it takes to make a run club of this size successful and help keep it growing over the years.
John Cabana-Johnson
Hello SRR!
I've been a member of the club for two years now and have participated in a lot of SRR events like 26x1, the MOMs Run, Mill Cities, and many of the USATF races. I've also volunteered at the Boston Cheer Zone, co-coordinate the new USBC run Tuesday mornings, and have been helping organize the 3 Hour group's long runs for about a year now.
Like a lot of people that join SRR, I thought I liked running alone, until a friend convinced me to come to a long run. Before I knew it, I was at the Burrun, waking up at 5:30am to make it to WMRC, and was signing up for random races in New Hampshire.
I'm running for Member at Large because I want to help SRR continue to grow, and I want to support all these great things that I've been able to get from the club.
Bryan Rust
I am putting my name in for consideration for the position Member at Large. I have been with the club for almost 1 year (joined March 2025!)
When I joined the club, I was looking for a group to help me try to be consistent with running. What I found was a community. SRR has been extremely welcoming to not only me but many many people of all abilities and experience. I would like to contribute as a Member at Large to a group that means so much to me.
I was one of two co-coordinators for SRR at the 2025 B.A.A. Half. I will be a pacer at the Bur-run and Casey’s for this year’s 5k training program.
Ivana Terziyska
Hello SRR! I’m Ivana and I’m running for Member at Large for the 2026 SRR Board.
I started running with SRR shortly after moving to the area in October 2023 and have been a regular since. I’ve volunteered at SRR events like the Gobble, MOMs Run, 26x1, Mill Cities, and more. I’ve also been co-leading the 10ish long runs for almost a year! This spring I’m excited to be part of the 5K program as a pacer in addition to continuing to volunteer in other areas.
When I first joined SRR I was scared to meet new people, and was a month out from running my first marathon, (which I trained for mostly by myself and was also so scared to do). Fast forward to now, and I’ve found a community, met some of my best friends, and done many more races I never thought were possible a couple years ago (one even with a whole SRR Peloton around me!).
So, I cannot overstate the positive impact SRR has had on my life, and I hope to give back to SRR and as Member at Large, especially with welcoming new members and providing an inclusive community. I am also interested in learning more about what happens behind the scenes and how being on the board works, in addition to supporting the club wherever is needed.
Doreen Lwanga
I would like to declare my candidacy for SRR Member-at-Large, 2026-2027.
Doreen Lwanga, SRR member since 2024. Regular runner with the Goldilocks Crew. I "sprinkle" myself into other runs (Casey's, Bur'Run, Squirrel Scramble, and other season runs) when my brain and schedule are nsync.
SRR Accomplishments (besides wisely becoming a member):
Superambitious SRR volunteer, literally, anything that smells SRR—Won Outstanding Volunteer 2025
Winning team Women's Masters 2025 - Mill Cities Relay
Ultrarunner—talk to me about "Comrades, The Ultimate Human Race."
Attended 1 monthly SRR Board Meeting. Hoping for me.
If I am not running or volunteering, I am cheering on SRR and taking pics.
Excited to serve
Thank you!
